MOTHERS SEAFOOD - Brooklyn, New York

Doing a job today and as I stepped out I saw the Classic Two Dollar Fish Sandwich advertised. Now I knew what I was in for and it had been so many years and I was in the proper neighborhood that I knew this would be The Real Deal even though there really is not much to speak of concerning this "On The Go" Finger Food. Did I type "I" enough ?

I wish it was a Fish Finger but was probably Tilapia.

Checked out the Take Out Menu. Has to be Tilapia as the going rate is five bucks (the least expensive fish on offer) and it is the two buck sammich,...

The Sandwich didn't stand a chance and was inhaled on the number 2 train platform.

Whole Wheat "Loaf" Bread with said "Fish". Very standard fare, I chose not to doll it up with Tartar, Ketchup or Hot Sauce but I do wonder what that Yellow Sauce on the counter was. I should have asked but the typical New Yorker in me who owns the place and knows exactly what he/she is doing reared its ignorant and modest head.

The other item I purchased was a small Sweet Potato Pie ($5.00), the customer before me had ordered one and I took a gander. Cristina happens to be a Sweet Potato gal so this was for her as I am not a fan, going to try a slice right now as I write (well during a brief pause from writing actually).

Had a bite cold and a bite warm, something in the ingredients reminds me of Indian Food.

Preferred warm in my book. I could Eat this but am not over the moon about it as so many people are but all I can say is Good for Them, Food is Sacred and to be enjoyed.

FUKI SUSHI (part V) - Fall/Winter 2016

The 18th Avenue Roll was the clear frontrunner in both of our opinions.

18th Avenue Roll - Lobster Tempura, Avocado (in), Tuna, Avocado (top) with Eel Sauce.

Dragon Roll - Eel, Cucumber (in), Avocado (top) with Eel Sauce.

Nice presentation on these specialty Rolls for a Brooklyn walk-in place, huh ?

10/26/16 - Cristina's Birthday

Cristina favored Sushi for her birthday dinner but did not in particular favor a place so we kept it close to home, as a matter of fact we took the Food home take-out style. Amongst the usual fare was the Eel Roll, Philadelphia Roll, Chicken Tempura Roll, Avocado Roll along with the 18th avenue Roll and,... But Whats This ?!!!

Well, I am not so surprised as I have been eyeing this little number for some months in part due to the braggadocio of "Crispy Ball of Rice" espoused amongst its mysterious Ingredients. Well, that is mostly what it consisted of,... that is Rice but quite well and entertaining it was.

Crispy Ball of Rice.

This was topped with Spicy Crunchy Tuna with Eel Sauce and Spicy Mayo.

A very simple concoction made mostly of Rice, enjoyable but I tried it, I liked it, time to move on.

CHRISTMAS 2015

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house the smell of frying filled the air as MSG looked for a mouse.
The Salmon was stored by the Butter Dish with care while the Broccoli Rabe just Simmered there.

This year (2015) I decided to prepare Christmas & Christmas Eve Dinner myself (with help from Christina) and while everything wound up fine there were pitfalls.

The Pan Seared Salmon was slightly underdone and had to be finished off in the oven, at one point my burners decided they wanted to stop working and I had to relight them mid-cook, I added the Crushed Tomatoes to the Pan BEFORE Cooking the Garlic in EVOO Twice !!! and I decided to use my electric hand mixer after all since I was running late and left the skins on the Potatoes except I couldn't find the plug for said hand mixer and hand mashed after all.

Other than that which isn't actually much to worry about everything came out Great if I must say so myself ' we did have Christmas.

12/24/15 - Christmas Eve - Pan Seared Salmon with Broccoli Rabe and Garlic Mashed Potatoes.

Christina and I are both Garlic Nuts (and knots) but next time we will have to use even more.

A Bulb & a half was added to the Broccoli Rabe and a half bulb for the Garlic Mashed Potatoes which was cooked in an unsalted Butter and Milk Sauce which I had to eyeball for quantity levels and it came out just right.

Christina's Salmon with Broccoli Rabe and Baked Sweet Potato.

Even MSG got into the holiday spirit and we discovered she enjoyed Broccoli Rabe stems, yes indeed a strange cat.

After Midnight and it was Officially Christmas so the appetizers came out, wait isn't that supposed to be the other way round.

12/25/15 - Christmas Day - Chicken Parmigiana with Penne and Sauce, Yes of course I used a Ton of Grated Cheese but only after this photo was taken.

Christina's Chicken Cutlets and Penne with Sauce on the side for Dipping.

MERRY CHRISTMAS 2015

FISHING WITH THE KING & THE CLOWN - BK vs. McD's

In no way am I playing favorites (yet) but BK was where I saw the sign first and have been planning on my Fishy suarez for over 2 weeks now.

Two Fish Sammies for $5 ($5.44), I Mixed and Matched and purchased a Big Fish and a Spicy Big Fish during the pre-lunch rush. If you have an hour for Lunch expect to spend the majority of it waiting to place your order and receive it as BK is packed at the noontime.

BK Big Fish - Served on a Plain Bun and topped with Lettuce, Tartar Sauce and Pickles the Fish Overlaps the Toasted Bread which is always welcome and part of BK's ennui and grace.

BK Spicy Big Fish - Only just a tad Spicier, the Hotness is in the Bread Crumbs from what I can tell.

McDonald's Filet-O-Fish - A Crispy yet thin Fish Slice served with Tartar Sauce that appears to have the tactile sensation inherent but lacking any Flavor whatsoever, what does rise this above the BK BIG Fish is the Cheese Slice which does compliment the Taste Buds, and who said Fish and Cheese do not fine bedfellows make.

As is McD's modus operandi the Fish Patty Underlaps the Bun and is obscured by it, Less is more ?,... not in this case buddy.

The McDonald's ad campaign and it had better be a dollar cheaper than Burger King, the BK packs more Whale of a Wollop.

2 for 4 like the sign says ($4.36).

BK wins Fins Up compared to the paltry yet tasty Filet-O-Fish that the leader offers.

OTHER PEOPLE'S FOOD - CEVICHE - GUAYAQUIL, ECUADOR

The Plate Map courtesy of Maria

My friend Frank and his girlfriend Maria had some authentic Ceviche in the country that makes it the best and boy do I wish I could try this and someday I most certainly hope to.

Pictured above is a smattering of various other dishes of the republic and boy do I hope to try these as well someday.

A glimpse of the Menu.

The storefront window I take it. This I am told is an out of the way place and as is the case with the best Foods available in any country this is the way to do it.

Ceviche On Parade, Just looking at that Shrimp makes my mouth water.

Ceviche is purportedly a Peruvian dish based on Seafood cured in Citrus Juice.

Ceviche flanked by Plantain Chips and Fresh Plantains.

I will have one of each please.

Let us hear from Frank who took these photos and lived the experience.

- On my last trip to Ecuador Maria and I had the pleasure of stopping at one of the best Cevicheria's in Guayaquil, "Aqui Esta Marcelo's"

The Ceviche was especially good, the place was packed. The walls were open to the street and I could see and hear downtown Guayaquil as I ate my Lunch. One thing that caught my attention was that I was the only "gringo" in the place... a good sign I was eating the best local Ceviche made by Ecuadorians for Ecuadorians who know good Ceviche. The Shrimp Ceviche I had was perfect. Not too tart, not bitter, and not too sweet. The Onions were Delicious and in perfect proportion to the rest of the dish, I could hardly taste them, adding only a fresh squeezed Lime and about 1 teaspoon of Ketchup. Perfect ...

CRAB CAKES

Some weeks ago I walked into the neighborhood Fish Market to procure a box of Crab Cakes. Nothing in the Freezer and I was in no mood to try that hard so I walked out, this bugged me though.

Few weeks later I went up to the counter and asked for Crab Cakes and of course they had them and at what I am told at a very good price after the fact (4 for $5.00).

These were Delicious and Full of Crab Cake Wonderfulness, Had the first two solo.

Don't Call Me Crabby !!! THIS IS CRABILICIOUS !!!
