INTERESTING SOFT DRINKS lll

Coke Raspberry came with much anticipation to me since it was not available in New York (Brooklyn at least) for some months until after its first appearance, I did get to enjoy the other new flavors on the block that were Georgia Peach and Strawberry but the Raspberry variety is the one I was most impressed by. 

Still am waiting for them to can this stuff or two liter it by me but the glass bottle is just fine and to aficionados the true way to appreciate a carbonated soft Drink.

With almost impeccable timing was the Dark Berry Dr. Pepper launched as I had recently been on a bit of a Pepper binge myself.

Snatched up a twelve pack of cans to be followed by two more twelve packs and the 20 ounce bottle serving when I can find it.

This seems to be disappearing from the shelves sadly and is most likely a limited Flavor.

My take on it is a Dr. Pepper but slightly Sweeter with a Berry tinge and if what I read is correct a hint of Black Currant as well.

Came across Ting maybe a year prior to this writing and was instantly impressed, so much so that I ran across the street and bought a second bottle to bring home.

Pictured here is another sighting of this elusive brand (due to my neighborhood) and I was just about to purchase a bottle with excitement when I recalled I am forbidden from Grapefruit by doctors orders.

My initial impression a year back was

"Like Fresca but with Sugar"

I hear there is a Pink Grapefruit variety as well that I so want to try but have not spotted one and now Grapefruit is marked from my books.

I was forbidden my Taste O' Ting but right there close by on the shelf amongst the Jamaican brand of Sodas was a can of Vimto.

This was akin to Champagne Cola plus Fruit.

A favorite of mine but it makes the list due to its serving size.

I have even pondered the thought in my spare time

"Why don't they make Schweppes Raspberry Ginger Ale in a 20 ounce size ?" 

Well Now they do and I am very pleased.

This was recommended to me by my friend Dianne and as soon as I spotted one I purchased it, This is a 7/11 product it appears and I made a special trip with it in mind.

Very tangy and sweet just as it should be. I have no negative response to it BUT whenever I see the word Lemonade I think non-carbonated. This one was carbonated and it even says so on the bottle but as I did not read the bottle upon initial tasting I was somewhat surprised.

This I have yet to try but what better time than while I am writing about Sodas I have known.

Excellent just like I expected from the Jones Soda company.

Its not just Orange, its Blood Orange.

There was a mistake when buying this incidentally, you see I was in a 7/11 and spotted a Sour Patch Kids Watermelon Soda and to me there are not enough Sour Sodas in the world so I was completely all for it, however Watermelon would not be the top choice of Flavor Sour or not so snuggled in the chute with the Watermelons was an Orange. When I got it home was when I noticed it was not a Sour Patch soda but shrugged it off with a "Well, I am a fan of blood Orange anyways" attitude.

Like many of these Drinks they were purchased during work and this one certainly was. The common Ginger Ale but a new brand for me and also after purchase I noticed it was made with Cane Sugar which is always a plus.

Thi almost did not make this list but might not be around in five years time so we will put it here just the same. I did notice when finishing this bottle that the Cranberry Flavoring was quite powerful but in a very good way.

Welcome To FANTA-see Island

Used to be Sunkist was the Orange Soda on the block and I have vague memories of Nehi brand as well as White Rock and the Supermarket brand varieties, not sure if Nehi was only available as a Fountain Soda though and of course there was the non carbonated brands like Kool-Aid and Funny Face, Tang is an Orange Drink unto itself and in a different category as is Tengo the Alcoholic Vodka and Oreangeade pre mixed in the bottle and then a tad later to my recollection comes Fanta. Fanta Orange Soda may have been around prior to Sunkist but I am going from my memories this time round and not running to Wikipedia.

As a FOOD Fanta Soda tastes accordingly to the label. 

Grape tastes like Grape, Orange tastes like Orange and so on and so forth.

I have often said to various people that "Orange Soda Is Evil" which would be greeted with a puzzling stare and of course this statement would be explained. Orange Soda is inherently Sweet, so much so that after finishing a bottle I find you are instantly craving for more, this is easily explained. Orange Soda is high in Sugar content, although I have never until just tonight read the Nutrition Facts label this was just a given and I was proven right.

Every so often I will choose a 16 ounce Fanta Orange at the corner bodega to quench my thirst but also do realize what I am in for, as soon as the bottle is done there it is I want another.

Tonight between jobs a bottle of Pineapple Fanta was chosen and this had the same Sugar craving aftertaste that was expected, after purchasing a Fanta Orange and Lipton Citrus Iced Tea for the train ride home I was amazed and proven right seeing that Fanta Orange contains sixty two Grams of Sugar then was taken aback that Fanta Pineapple has eighty Grams, thats even more !!!

Coca Cola has sixty seven Grams so I guess its all a moot point.

Typical of myself the gears started moving in my tinderbox upstairs so off the train and into the Candy store to see what I could see.

Fanta Strawberry is running neck and neck with Pineapple containing seventy four Grams of Sugar

Also on the shelf is what is referred to as Mexican Soda (as it is a Product Of Mexico) which is preferred due to its use of Sugar as opposed to High Fructose Corn Syrup and also comes in a glass bottle for the purists who are swayed by the notion that soda tastes better from glass than plastic and they do have a point there.

Also the Mexican Fanta has forty two grams of Sugar as opposed to sixty two but is also four ounces smaller than the twenty ounce serving and as I am horrible in mathematics I just am not going to figure this one out.

Well this has become a posting mainly concerning Nutritional Value in a Sugary sense which these entries are not known for but to date it looks like the Pineapple Fanta takes the Sugar cube with 80 Grams content. Apple Fanta shown above is one of the more unique Flavors as there are not many Apple Sodas on offer to me, only one other comes to mind (Sidral Mundet).

The Berry Fanta is Berry Berry Good but as I have said Be aware what you are getting yourself into when about to enjoy a Fanta. A sweet tasting Soda indeed even when its Sugar content ranks pretty much equivalent alongside all the other pops on the market.

I am just plain scared of the Pineapple variety but will I indulge in the future,...

Simplest Recipe as well thanks to my friend Don for sending the link over.

Serving Glass amount of water into a shaker, Add Ice and lots of it, well maybe 4-5 cubes, Add 1/2 to whole Lemon (most important), Heaping spoon of Sugar and shake it up then pour from shaker into glass.

DONE and Delicious.

O.K. Who is the jerk that decided to make a "Wine" flavored Soft Drink.

I would normally give a non-biased review here but this stuff tastes like doo-doo.

More complaining from me but this HUGE bottle was a chore to get through, kind of watery and lacking in any personality. If I want a full serving of Vitamin C I will steer clear next time.

This achieves attention on its name alone.

Very Tasty and proper like most Snapple products (I am still not a fan of their Fruit Punch) and adhering a tribute to "The Boss" in name alone of course I had to try it. Tastes kind of like Peach and Mango.

Most Delicious, This became my Beverage of choice for some time akin to Schweppes Raspberry Ginger Ale a few years back in frequency of purchase. 

I continue to seek Cherry 7-Up in Cans but so far no luck in NYC.

With a slight mediciney taste but after all that is Ginger.

Quite excited to try this upon fear of its resolution of production within a short period but try I did. Oddly not as Crisp as the average Ginger Ale but no complaints here.

Purchased to add to my Orange Juice making it a Pineapple Orange Juice.

While at La Bella - I passed this in the aisle, forgot about it (for 10 seconds) then double backed. 

Lightly Effervescent Sweet Grapefruit Soda.

This tasted as it should. Kinda like Strawberry Lemonade.

Carbonated Ginger Ale but also Carbonated Lemonade as it was not a watered down Beverage.

The first time I tried this was a year or two ago. It is now 2019 and I found another bottle which hopefully has not been sitting on the shelf from a year or two ago.

Enjoyed this serving moreso. Sweeter and richer in Black Cherry Flavor.

They make "Tall Boys" of Beer so why not Soda ?

The 16 ounce can of Coke is supposedly a 7/11 exclusive but a few cases must have fallen off the back of a truck as I found this anomaly at a local Deli and pondered the ramifications of WHY NOT ?

More Fizz for your fiver, More Syrup for your synapses and of course More Carbonation in your can.

They appear to have vanished off the face of this earth many aeons ago but their legacy remains a dim and distant memory.

The marketing campaign designed to appeal to thrill seekers and devout followers was the "Frosty Cool Can" wherein a chilled container would display Blue ice cubes (meaning cold) and a room temperature serving would show aluminum silver (meaning room temperature).

Kinda Nifty, huh ?

The Soft Drink. People Worldwide indulge in them but sometimes there are unique Flavors and when there are I am always intrigued. I did perform these Taste tests with some forethought, out of the bottle Ice cold and a small serving in a cup at a less than icy temperature as the Flavor comes out a bit more much like a Cheese served at closer to room temperature.

Sidral Mundet Apple Soda tastes pretty much exactly like I thought it would,... like Apple Soda. A little on the sweeter side and not too much Fizz to distract from the Flavor like in a Ginger Ale as I perhaps expected. Better from the Bottle, quickly loses its carbonation in the cup.

12/14/15 - So far as I know a "Shirley Temple" os a non-alcoholic drink served in bars to minors and tea totallers so when I saw this bottled by the Boylan company of New York it did indeed pique my interest, this has also been sitting in my fridge for some time so time to give it a shot. I have no idea what to expect.

Almost a biting Ginger Ale flavor which I did not expect, this looks in color as a syrupy Sweet Drink. Quite unlike anything I've had, almost medicine but not in a bad way.

Very Different.

I was quite excited fro see this, Canada Dry makes my favorite Ginger Ale and this appears to be a Peach Soda, no mention of Ginger Ale on the bottle. 

Nice Scent and interesting Flavor but there is something here, hmmm ???

I think its the Peach Skin flavor, Different.

The Lipton's Green Citrus Tea is just plain Delicious and I would have told you the same years ago when I first had it and I will tell you again. Mild Green Tea Flavor with a Citrus overtone, I was also impressed that I could see little flakes of Tea floating around in the mix, either that or I was hallucinating. A True Winner.

10/3/14 - Not ten minutes before did I mention I was looking for Lipton Citrus Green Tea and there I was with Nestea Green Tea right in front of me, lets have a Taste.

Oh Boy, Not the same stuff at all like Lipton's. Overbearing Citrus and plastic Flavor, no way am I going to like this as much as Lipton's. OK now that I know what to expect let me try again. Nope, I tell you theres a plastic taste, the sad part is thats probably the Green Tea.

Its about an hour later and I had a few more sips of it, This is so not so good that I am wondering if it has gone bad ? I'm going to the fridge to check the date. The bottle did not appear tampered with as there was air pressure, well you know what I mean, going to check the date. I can't read it, the month is completely smudged off, it does say 2014 though, ugh.

21 HOURS LATER

OK, I found another bottle of Nestea Citricos Iced Green Tea, Lets see what happens,..... While this is still no match for Lipton's version this is quite good and whatever I purchased last night was indeed spoiled.

11/19/15 - Salvavidas Lime Soda sets out to achieve what it purports to be.

It's a Lime Soda.

And served in a particularly heavy glass bottle.

It is interesting to note that there a quite a few Mexican Lime Soda's but no American one that I know of. Sprite doesn't count, thats Lemon/Lime.

11/19/15 - Mountain Dew with a classy old timey look.

More of a 7-Up flavor and not nearly as Sweet as Mountain Dew, I can almost guarantee this is off the market already. Not Bad, Not Great.

12/14/15 - My roommate is from Michigan and he spied this bottle in my fridge and was rather surprised but he did confirm my suspicion that it is a Grapefruit Citrus based Soft Drink and I have indeed been on a Grapefruit kick. Made with Sugar.

The lightness of a 7-Up or Sprite but with a bit of a Grapefruit zing, very tasty.

12/17/15 - Just a quality Strawberry Soda, not the most common Flavor yet not extremely common either. All Jarrito's Soda's are quite good in my opinion. Made with Sugar.
