FOOD DAY lV 2017

Twas' another marvelous Food Day.

My Bro' Frank and his clan travelled into town to procure some Brooklyn Eats and this is always a joyous occasion with much merriment, conversation and Well,... FOOD

I have only had Spumoni from THE PLACE several times in my life as I do not have a sweet tooth so I can count my Spumoni experiences from The L & B Spumoni Gardens on two hands.

Spumoni Garden - The half tray of Sicilian Squares are unveiled.

Malkito ate 11 of the 12 Slices but we all shared the other one.

Next Stop - Silver Star of which a lifetime of Chinese American Food heritage has been built on.

This is my dish of Chicken with Peanuts flanked by Pork Fried Rice as I continue my journey into the unknown trying dishes I have previously not from their Illustrious Menu.

La Famiglia - (L to R) Malkito, Adrianna, Frank, Maria and my Beautiful God Daughter Amelia.

Taken under the Classic Silver Star Arch.

Malkito still found room for some Chicken Fried Rice after his Eleven Sicilian Slices at L & B Spumoni Garden.

I am kidding around, he may have had the majority,... O.K. 10 Slices.

18th Avenue Bakery, Franks stopover for 7 Layer Cookies and Cream Puffs.

LIONI'S for take home Foods.

I purchased a Dozen Prosciutto Balls.
(6 for $5.00)

Six for Laura's Barbecue and six for the Fridge.
Best Prosciutto Balls in town.

FOOD DAY lll - 2016

What was most heartwarming and tummy filling of this event (which is in the least annual and possibly even quad annual if not more) was the fact that Amelia and Markito were present.

And so the two Brooklyn boys marched forth with foresight and knowledge of what lay ahead but Maria and Frank's children had great gastronomical approval along the path.

Markito rated L & B Spumoni Garden with a 20 on a scale of 10 and inhaled 4 Slices (count em' 4) on our first stop. Amelia got in on the Spumoni action as well but ask me on Food Day Vlll how she loves the Slices and Spumoni for her details, this is yet to come.

A full Pie at L & B Spumoni Gardens as shot through the window/serving area.

Next stop, Willoughby (Silver Star).

The Wonton Soup with a segmented & contorted Noodle afloat.

It remains so easy to get my regular order of Chow Mein but I am bent on trying new things from the menu.

Here is Chicken with Eggplant in Garlic Sauce.

Yes, it was Delicious.

The regular for Frank and the bartender knows his name.

Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. Top flight and first class.

An unusually contorted Crispy Soup Noodle on parade.

Maria's Shrimp & Garlic Sauce.

Amelia & Mister Silver Star.

"looks like we're not in Kansas anymore".

In anticipation of receiving his "Paul Sorvino" Sandwich (Sausage & Broccoli Rabe) Frank happily extends an Manhattan Special Coffee Soda amidst the Stuffed Breads.

(La Familia) Maria, Frank, Amelia & Markito.

Amelia wears the pants in this family but Frank orders the FOOD on this massive FOOD DAY 3.

L & B SPUMONI GARDENS 5/1/15 Brooklyn, New York

THREE SQUARE MEALS A DAY.

The Sicilian Slice from L & B Spumoni Gardens is certainly my favorite "Square" and perhaps my cohorts as well whom I accompanied this evening, being Roberta (Billy Joel song), Sarah Crazy Child (Tyrannosaurus Rex song) and your narrator Spike (Tom Petty song) and what is not be agreed upon, Just Perfect.

A bit non-conformist and leading the pack placing the Cheese directly on the Dough and the Sauce on top making it quite a "backwards" Slice,... or is it ?

L & B's House Salad (Romaine Lettuce, Red Cabbage, Olives, Tomato, Radish, Red Onion) was shared amongst us and is available for weddings, bar mitzvahs and bat mitzvahs alike. At the end only some poor Radishes were left, none of us has ever purchased a Radish in real life nor possibly in the dream world as well but we all agreed and no offense but Radishes taste like Dirt, well they are grown IN the dirt so perhaps they retain this from their infancy.

The Rice Ball Appetizer - I did order Parmigiana so I think they got it wrong as charging $1.50 extra for a light dusting of Grated Cheese seems without warrant, HOWEVER these proved themselves quite formidable as they were the Rice Ball proper or at least the kind with Meat and Peas inside, I can still taste it now.

Oh Wait, I have one as a leftover and I shall taste it again.

YUMMYYUMMYYUMMYYUMMYYUMMYYUMYUMYUMBURP.

And here you see that "The Proof Is In The Rice Ball"

(Sicilian Slice in the background not included)

Incidentally as Roberta did not order a Sicilian Slice at the beginning of the evening they threw one in for free. This is extremely nice, good customer service, good business and perfect Pizza symmetry.

And perhaps an inherent fear and reverence for Raphanus, the Radish King of Venus.

Penne a la Vodka with Grilled Chicken, need I say more ?. OK I will

Penne a la Vodka with Grilled Chicken.

The Pasta was done perfectly just under Al Dente in a savory yet mild Vodka Sauce and there were little Mushrooms singing to us from the plate. Sarah Crazy Child swore it was a Macklemore song but Roberta refuted that it was in fact Taylor Swift and I suggested Klaus Nomi so we agreed to disagree and dug in.

Actually I was late to the game as I was still contemplating a Rice Ball that was singing in a contralto voice "Who Wants To Live Forever" from my plate.

Did someone put something in our water ?

Sarah Crazy Child does not care for the Olive and while me and Roberta protested she plopped them onto her plate and then onto mine. "doop, doop, doop" they went and were quickly speared and devoured.

The Olive Garden has nothing on Spumoni Gardens.

Great Food, Great Evening.

L & B SPUMONI GARDENS 8/27/12 Brooklyn, New York

We had the Classic L & B "SQUARE" as an appetizer.

2 Squares halved

of which one half of one square is pictured however being two squares this is indeed a photo of one fourth of the order as two squares yield four halves & a partridge in a pear tree.

I had the Chicken Francaise Plate with Linguini and Marinara on the side.

The Chicken Francaise "To Go" tin with Bread was visited in the wee small hours for a few kitchen nibbles over the weekend (3-4 dips) and I am realizing at the time (Thyme) of this typing that some leftovers remain back at Jamie's ! (or were they eaten in a blur ?) more to come.

I would be last in these entries but I photographed my food first unsure of wether or not other plates would follow and food works temporally in most cases.

You see some people frown on this type of photography. Fortunately I was asked to "Document" some of the wares on display by my famished ghouls and food mongers.

Jamie had the Fusilli with Sausage & Broccoli Rabe, or did it have her ?

This is Max' HUGE Chicken Parmigiana, I was most Envious.

Lighting in Spumoni Garden's was subtle and since I was not using a flash and taking these photos with my iPhone they did come out a bit atmospheric to say the least. People were talking LOUDLY as well but so goes with the Eye-Talian Cuisine.

PASS THE VINO !!!

Bill had the Shrimp Parmigiana, I witnessed him slice One (1) Shrimp into Four (4) Bite Sized Pieces, Now that's a Jumbo Swimp !!!

L & B Is One Of a Kind, A Brooklyn Treasure And Never Disappoints.

We will get you that Peach Spumoni Max !!!
