SILVER STAR RESTAURANT FALL 2016 Brooklyn, New York

It is high time for a Silver Star entry on here,... Well,... Just Because.

10/10/16 (Cristina 2 year Anniversary Dinner).

Here we witness the Number 8 Combination Platter.

As of late I have been Hobnobbing as it were as an innocent bystander spying upon "other" peoples Culinary orders amidst visual viewing and audioception listening pre-soup time and the Number 8 is the clear frontrunner and for good reason as well.

Number 8 - Barbecued Spare Ribs, Chow Mein, Fried Rice, Egg Roll and of course the Appetizer portion of Soup. ($11.95).

Egg Roll (this photo should get the Pulitzer prize).

#19 - Beef with Oyster Sauce Combination Platter.

This was just grand as I was expecting the traditional "throw in a ton of vegetables to pad it out" but that was not the case. Strictly succulent Beef in Oyster Sauce which was actually Brown Gravy with no trace of Oyster Sauce but I did not complain and took some leftovers home as well.

Accidental photo titled "napkin on thigh"

10/15/16 - Shin Godzilla aftershow meal.

Above we see two of the mightiest Soups a Restaurant has to offer.
(Hot & Sour & Wonton)

The Won Ton Soup is served in proper Won Ton Broth as opposed to the run of the mill everyotherchineserestaurantusesit Chicken Broth (no offense to chicken broth but lets save that for chicken soup) and the Hot & Sour Soup speaks for itself chanting "eatme, eatme".

#17 - Roast Pork with Mushrooms in Brown Gravy Combination Platter.

In all honesty I know what I like and I like what I know sofar as the Silver Star Menu goes but in a transcendental state variety is where the mind and palette takes me heedingly as life is only a limited time and SO,...

What I am trying to type is that I am trying different things off of the Menu but my heart is with the Chow Mein and whatnot.

BUT I know What I Like so very soon it will be back to Chow Mein.

The Roast Pork with Mushrooms was Immaculate but did I expect anything less ?

At one point I mentioned to Frank that "If you look up Tender Pork Medallion" in the dictionary this photo turns up.

I Love these dishes, next up might be the Chef's Specialties Menu and I do stress "might" as this is the Classic Chow Mein Joint of yore and when in France do as they do in Silver Star wich translated means "order Chow Mein".

Facing the Dining area right outside of the Kitchen is the S.S.S.S. (Secret Silver Star Stash).

Subgum Abounds.

Silver Star In Almost Full Swing (photo taken with camera positioned just over the S.S.S.S. bunker).

Noodlezilla Amok.

Shin Godzilla to whet the appetite.

11/10/16 - Today is my Birthday and of all the Restaurants to choose I choose Silver Star.

WHY ?

Because They RULE.

SILVER STAR RESTAURANT - Celebrations and Ghost Train Haze - 7/2/16 Brooklyn, New York

The obligatory Quarterly (or more than) posting concerning Silver Star Restaurant.

Here we see a quartet of Dem Sem in their natural habitat generously enrobed in Oyster Sauce and adorned with Diced Scallion.

Today was a farewell party for Charlie (moving away) and a survival party for me (positive medical news) and we got our wires crossed as to the "Why" because above all this was a chance to get together at one of our favorite culinary places since childhood.

BARBECUED SPARE RIBS -

Silver Star is widely known for their greatness in tackling this Porkalicious Dish of staggering Tastiness and it is done oh so right, my only regret is I forgot to dip my Wib into some House Duck Sauce but these are so Scrumptiously Juicy and overflowing with Flavor that I did not even notice or consider this fact until nearly 24 hours later.

Perfection in Ribs.

After our Soup selection we meandered amongst conversation and appetizers.
What with the place getting exponentially crowded by the second (see video below) the service slacked in pace to no complaints from us as there was Dem Sem, Ribs and the Classic Chicken In Foil to be had.

The Chicken In Foil.

"Why did you switch off your targeting computer"

We were plenty full from the appetizers and conversation about "Fawlty Towers" (actually that came later) but Cristina & I could not exit without a Taste of Chicken Chow Mein and Pork Fried Rice as only they make it to my knowledge.

I really must return to Wo Hop very soon to compare.

Cristina's Hot & Sour Soup and my Wonton Soup, Jamie & Charlie also had Wonton as the first dish on the table as we perused our menu's.

Charlie & the Ghost.

The Wrecking Crew - (L to R) some guy, Jamie, Kenny and Charlie.

All sporting t-shirts that RULE and of course Kenny in a Classy.

All Heaven Broke Loose.

The Video titles speak for themselves.

He speaks Wisdoms.

7/12/16 - Silver Star to go (just over a week later) - A plethora of the "must haves" even though Cristina and I did skimp on the Pork Fried Rice this time. Chicken Chow Mein, Roast Pork Lo Mein, White Rice, Hot & Sour Soup and Dem Sem but there was a newer player on the team this night of which I am a longtime fan but had never tried from Silver Star.

I knew they wouldn't let me down, most Delicious Roast Pork with Bean Sprouts I may have ever had.

SILVER STAR RESTAURANT 6/6/16 Brooklyn, New York

And a bed of Crispy Noodles to you sir.

Nothing new was sampled on this trip to Silver Star but I like to Pepper this here Food Blog several times a year with an entry here and there from one of my most favorite places.

So far as newness goes, Cristina sampled some House Mustard on a Crispy Noodle and loved it,... told her so.

Not to stray from the subject but as an aside I was having a "procedure" done so chose Silver Star as one of my "Last Meal" choices hence the familiarity of the Dishes forthcoming.

and "Last Meal" it was not.

Glorious Won Ton Soup done the proper American Chinese way.

Cannot be beaten especially compared to the state of Brooklyn Asian Cuisine these days,... actually this trend of crappy chinese food across America has reached critical mass, yes its mostly all crappy.

Not this bowl though, makes me want some right now.

Proper Thick Western Wonton, Roasted Pork Slices, Bok Choy and Wonton Broth.

The game plan for today was to go for Indian Food but since that did not work out we chose SILVER STAR, plan B which was scheduled a few days hence but in a clairvoyant haze as I was at my doctors appointment in anticipation for Indian Food I was also pre-anticipating in my minds eye during all that "sittingaroundandwaitingwithonlyyourthoughtsforcompany" the future scheduled appointment with Silver Star which filled me with thoughts of dipping a Crunchy and Oily Shrimp Toast into a welcoming mini-cauldron of House Mustard.

And so it came to pass.

Roast Pork Chow Mein - This to me always ran neck in neck with the I am supposing more popular Chicken Chow Mein and to me is just as good. On a complete 50/50 level I find it impossible to pick a favorite.

Rather simple, everything is exactly the same excepting for the Meat on top.

"Second Mein Same As The First"

Chicken Chow Mein - Cannot be beat (only matched by the Roast Pork Chow Mein) and can I ever truly take and have as many photos of this dish, the answer is a clear NO.

This is the Lunch Special portion.

There are Cauldrons.

There are Soups.

There are Cauldrons of Soup.

There is Silver Star.

I chose Indian Food as the dinner to celebrate my 47th year but just as we were about to go to press with an Evite Jamie brainstormed Silver Star as a more fitting location and I could not agree moreso. This Old School Chinese Restaurant (.-)) was attentive in the wait staff and even provided us 2 staging areas and an invisible table nearby for our bags and framed autographed photos of Keith Emerson.

I have to give it to Jamie for calling ahead concerning mixed drinks only to find that Silver Star is a B.Y.O.B. establishment, perhaps it is a good thing we didn't know this 30 years ago. Jennie brought a bottle of Champagne and I donated one red & one white zinfandel, the table enjoyed the Zin while Joe and myself polished off the Shiraz.

The Pu Pu Platter.

Even the erosion of time leaves these sterno's conducive and unchanged.

Photobucket

Wise Mr. Frank ordered his usual, Shrimp in Lobster Sauce with Pork Fried Rice and Egg Roll (combination), of note there is an unusually shaped Crispy Noodle above the plate (1 o' clock).

Photobucket

Bob-San enjoyed Spare Rib with Pork Fried Rice and Egg Roll.

Photobucket

Confuscius say "Confusion Abounds Here" as I do not recall who got the Pork with Mixed Vegetables,  my memory tells me that both Dragon Lady Jennie and China Doll Madge both ordered "Chow Mein" but I am obviously Wong and must commit Harry Carry.

Photobucket

Emperor Joe went the right route for an American-Chinese Restaurant and sampled some Egg Foo Young with Gravy, Pork Fried Rice & Egg Roll.

The Emperor walked away happily.

Photobucket

My fellow Asian and PuertoPino friend Manny had a manly plate indeed with Chicken Chow Mein, Egg Roll, Pork Fried Rice AND Spare Ribs.

Photobucket

Madama Jamiefly was wise in her asian ordering and was served the Boneless Chicken atop Mixed Chinese Vegetables which is a Favorite to ALL.

Boneless Chicken ?
How Did It Walk ?

Photobucket

I ordered my mainstay, Roast Pork Chow Mein.
No One makes it this way.

Thanks Everyone for the Birthday Party.

Spike Blows.

There was a Panda with Bok Choy as well but then I was told it was Bamboo.
Oh Wait, BAMBU.
