FOOD DAY V 2018

The "Square" from Da Vinci still remains quite unbeatable and this is always a stop on Food Day as my Bro' Frank does make a long trek to his old stomping grounds a few times a year to celebrate this occasion and as you can see I forgot to capture a photo before chomping in a bit.

Do Not Blame Me. Blame The Greatness of the Square.

An 18th avenue staple for many years

We then proceeded to Silver Star Restaurant which is also an 18th avenue staple that precedes Da Vinci by about twenty years and remains quite an enigmatic and formidable experience.

Unfortunately I felt under the weather so got mine to go after the fact (more below).

Proper Won Ton Soup.
NOT Chicken Broth.

Did not get exactly what I wanted but it was fine.

Ordered Pork Fried Rice in Black Bean Sauce with Bean Sprouts (mind you this is not on the menu),
So I was being a daring invenionist but that is what I was served.

I was proposing a pile of Fried Rice all mixed together so no complaints here.

Had no appetite but took it to go but did enjoy a can of Coke and good conversation.

Markito chose a plate of Chow Mein of which I sung its praises but did not work for his taste. Adrianna ordered Chicken with Broccoli with Fried Rice which was a winner and Frank ordered his Shrimp with Lobster Sauce of which he knows he does love.

FOOD DAY lV 2017

Twas' another marvelous Food Day.

My Bro' Frank and his clan travelled into town to procure some Brooklyn Eats and this is always a joyous occasion with much merriment, conversation and Well,... FOOD

I have only had Spumoni from THE PLACE several times in my life as I do not have a sweet tooth so I can count my Spumoni experiences from The L & B Spumoni Gardens on two hands.

Spumoni Garden - The half tray of Sicilian Squares are unveiled.

Malkito ate 11 of the 12 Slices but we all shared the other one.

Next Stop - Silver Star of which a lifetime of Chinese American Food heritage has been built on.

This is my dish of Chicken with Peanuts flanked by Pork Fried Rice as I continue my journey into the unknown trying dishes I have previously not from their Illustrious Menu.

La Famiglia - (L to R) Malkito, Adrianna, Frank, Maria and my Beautiful God Daughter Amelia.

Taken under the Classic Silver Star Arch.

Malkito still found room for some Chicken Fried Rice after his Eleven Sicilian Slices at L & B Spumoni Garden.

I am kidding around, he may have had the majority,... O.K. 10 Slices.

18th Avenue Bakery, Franks stopover for 7 Layer Cookies and Cream Puffs.

LIONI'S for take home Foods.

I purchased a Dozen Prosciutto Balls.
(6 for $5.00)

Six for Laura's Barbecue and six for the Fridge.
Best Prosciutto Balls in town.

FOOD DAY lll - 2016

What was most heartwarming and tummy filling of this event (which is in the least annual and possibly even quad annual if not more) was the fact that Amelia and Markito were present.

And so the two Brooklyn boys marched forth with foresight and knowledge of what lay ahead but Maria and Frank's children had great gastronomical approval along the path.

Markito rated L & B Spumoni Garden with a 20 on a scale of 10 and inhaled 4 Slices (count em' 4) on our first stop. Amelia got in on the Spumoni action as well but ask me on Food Day Vlll how she loves the Slices and Spumoni for her details, this is yet to come.

A full Pie at L & B Spumoni Gardens as shot through the window/serving area.

Next stop, Willoughby (Silver Star).

The Wonton Soup with a segmented & contorted Noodle afloat.

It remains so easy to get my regular order of Chow Mein but I am bent on trying new things from the menu.

Here is Chicken with Eggplant in Garlic Sauce.

Yes, it was Delicious.

The regular for Frank and the bartender knows his name.

Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. Top flight and first class.

An unusually contorted Crispy Soup Noodle on parade.

Maria's Shrimp & Garlic Sauce.

Amelia & Mister Silver Star.

"looks like we're not in Kansas anymore".

In anticipation of receiving his "Paul Sorvino" Sandwich (Sausage & Broccoli Rabe) Frank happily extends an Manhattan Special Coffee Soda amidst the Stuffed Breads.

(La Familia) Maria, Frank, Amelia & Markito.

Amelia wears the pants in this family but Frank orders the FOOD on this massive FOOD DAY 3.

FOOD DAY ll - 2015

An Unusually Long and Contorted Noodle.

Just under a year has passed and FOOD DAY TWO loomed and reared its Delicious head so we most willingly did sally forth with dreams of Delectable Delights.

Christina, Maria, Frank and I had a most Digestable afternoon.

Lioni's sporting a Frank (A.O.F)

Fetching my Prosciutto Balls.

No words for this.

It's Bread, Wait its Not, OH MY GOD

That Bowling Ball IT'S MY WIFE !!!.

Maria sporting a Villabate with a baby on board.

We got some Fresh Out Of The Oven (O.O.T.O) at Da Vinci this time and just like always, PIZZA Heaven. Absolutely Perfect but Silver Star loomed on the horizon so I shared a Square with Christina and Frank being the trooper he is had a Slice and half Square, Well it is Food Day isn't it.

BROOKLYN BABY.

Silver Star sporting a Frank (A.O.F.)

And The Stars Aligned.

Maria had Shrimp Mei Fun Combination which comes with Egg Roll and choice of Rice and Soup, in this case it was Pork Fried Rice (beyond compare) and Wonton Soup (also beyond compare) and they also applied us with utensils to consume Foodage with.

The crowning Glory (I shall never order this again).

Beef & Tomato.

This has been glaring at me on the Menu for Decades and I became Quite Intrigued and it tasted Exactly what it was called, it tasted like Beef & Tomato (in Gravy) and that my friends is that.

Quite bland for my taste. With many other things to offer on the Vast Menu this was a loser. I added some Soy Sauce and took 4/4th's of it home as a Leftover ragamuffin.

Speaking of Leftovers.

Frank is a wise man who knows the deal.

We also Love the band RUSH.

Check out his Plate(s) (pictured above)

Wonton Soup (of which we know Silver Star Rules at) flanked by Shrimp (don't know what happened to the Mei Fun) with a pair of Dim Sum (kill me now, so good) with a Leftover Egg Roll (which I hope was baked as opposed to microwaved) and half of #44 - Paul Sorvino (Broccoli Rabe and Sausage) from Lioni's who don't Eff around. Eleven American Bucks.

And just to chuck it in as they say I made some Delicious Ravioli from Pastosa the night before for Christina and I.

CURMUDGEON REPORT - MEATBALL HERO - PIZZA DEN/DOUBLE DELIGHT - Brooklyn, New York

I order my Sandwich from my cellphone, its the weekend so the minutes are free otherwise its like 25 Dollars a Week. I proudly don my Steve Hackett t-shirt except nobody in my neighborhood even knows who Steve Hackett is, Christ they probably don't even know who Jimi Hendrix is, Eff Them. I pass 3 Asianfolk outside on the sidewalk pontificating, I head the 2 Long avenues to 18th avenue for my Meatball Hero, the Pizza guy on the phone said "No Cheese ?" I said NO (I know what Parmigiana means and would order thusly if I wanted Cheese). They were an Italian Pizzeria for decades but now Russian, Eff Them.

I pass my local Liquor bodega first and debit card a bottle of Vodka, there is now a lock on the door and I have to be buzzed in, I say "you put a lock on the door ?" which is a Stupid question, the shopkeeper replies "yes" which is an even stupider yet straightforward answer, If I wanted to be more of a jerk I could have asked "why ?", my debit goes through "thank you", Eff Them.

I step into the Pizzeria I had previously called and look at the Slices, Rolls and Knots on offer waiting for a "can I help You ?" I am promptly asked and reply "I called for a Meatball Hero" and its ready, Six Dollars it cost which is the going rate and has remained steady for quite some time, I hand over my red lobster and get my fourteen back. I step back onto 18th avenue and its proliferation of Idiots and quite a ton of lovely ladies and just some who are merely waiting for the bus lovely as they are as well and step back under the L (elevated train platform) to get my parcels back home. I stop for an Arizona Kiwi Strawberry Drink at the corner store, Eff Them All.

Approaching home and in the same spot the 3 Asianfolk are still pontificating about God Knows What, No One makes a mention of my Steve Hackett t-shirt (Eff Them) and I still have to venture out yet again for the French Fries to compliment my Sandwich !!!.

Now of course I am listening to Genesis with Steve Hackett (Trick of the Tail LP), this ends Part One.

Meatball Hero In The Bag, There is a way to fold the bag shut and they do it right, once this ends then so does Humankind, the bag folding I mean.

Hours later and this was my plan I ordered my French Fries from my cellphone, its the weekend so the minutes are free otherwise its like 25 Dollars a week. I walked over to Double Delight (Chinese Restaurant take out) by my apartment and picked up my side order, All Asians Everywhere of which mind you I am as well but not one vocal Steve Hackett fan found me or me them. I did pass an American car playing Indian Music on the way back home though, Eff Them.

The man in Double Delight is very charming and dare I say handsome, I bet he gets lots of Nookie.

I stopped into my local DD (Dunkin Donuts) for a Donut/Cake treat, Nothing to offer !!!
I mean not even a Chocolate Donut, they had Strawberry Frosted which I Love but I wanted a Halloween Donut, the cute Pumpkin faced one, the sign outside portrays them, inside Nothing, Maybe I can work there, certainly seems to be a lack of work happening, I walked out, one less customer. Eff Them.

More Asians.

Back Home Now.

French Fries in Styrofoam, these are served in a plastic bag and no wrapping method needed.
