HONORABLE MENTION - BLIMPIE

In a few instances this page has become a bit epistemological in its ramblings of late for the mere fact that "What the heck else am I going to write about" and while I am prepared to sing the praises that I may about America's Best Dressed Sandwich The Blimpie I also need some filler here as The Blimpie is,.... ummm,... Well quite a bit of filler. This paragraph has been written before any treatise has been set down but by Lettuce I will find something.

In-Store Mylar (I have no idea) poster advertising the ALMOST B.B. (Blimpies Best) now called the Hoboken Hero.

The Blimpies Best is still on the Menu but the Hoboken is so close in ingredients one wonders why it is even on offer but I digress.

Opening shot of my Sammy and then I realized my iPhone was out of memory so I deleted an unused game and still CANNOT TAKE PHOTO.

Well, obviously I did, my Sandwich sat there for 75 seconds as I powered down and powered back up again. Mind you it was freezing outside today, like 7 degrees with a wind chill factor of god knows what.

It wasn't enough that I found a Shake Shack and Burger King next to each other in downtown Brooklyn's Fulton Street mall but there within eyeshot was a Blimpie spot, was this heaven ?

well according to the weather it seemed quite the opposite but Satan always has the best player's doesn't he ? OK that might be an unfair cheap shot but no one is reading this anyway.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!

BABYSITTING THE BISCUIT - THE SAUSAGE BISCUIT THROWDOWN

This is not going to be easy but its going to be quick.

While many Fast Food Restaurants do have a Breakfast Menu not all of them have a Sausage Biscuit, I am averse to Eggy Weggy's so either I win or they do.

Mind you they could win but thats for another day.

Breakfast Menu's are limited yet tantalizing, the cost is low to lull the customer into a sense of safe spending as they begin their day and then they reel you in by Dinner time.

I begin my Quest.

McDonald's Sausage Biscuit - Begin the day with a wish for a Biscuit (Lee, Lifeson, Peart) but  Popeye's was still closed (pre 10 a.m.) so I wandered into the Mickey D's next door. Quick service and the Sausage Biscuit ($1.09) was on the Menu. I carried her upstairs and over the threshold for some fine dining.

I am a stickler for Buttermilk Biscuits but I can see this will be a close race possibly without a winner, the McDonald's Biscuit was almost identical to my beloved Popeye's Buttermilk Biscuit.

I am sure these come in Dry Food Bags of Mix that you add Water to and pop in the Oven at all of these chain Restaurants, But I digress.

Delicious Buttermilk Biscuit, No Toppings to induce a false sense of Flavor, Nice and Dry yet Tender and Warm. The Sausage Pattie itself was a melange of Meat by-products and basically tasted like a reheated lump of Fat which all Sausage Patties of this ilk taste (4 out of 5).

Incidentally as this entry was an afterthought the picture was taken in haste and the Biscuit in the photo above is bottom side up.

Burger King Sausage Biscuit - 2/19/15 - Like with Everything BK their Sausage Biscuit beat out McDonald's but only just. The Biscuit was Saltier and Drier just by a tad, The Sausage Pattie might be of a slightly higher quality but it is so close. BK serves their Sausage Biscuit solo at the same price as McDonald's ($1.09) but I opted for the Combo Meal ($3.80) which came with a much needed Coffee and Hash Brown's. The Coffee was Coffee and the Hash Browns were disc's of Minced Potato which were lightly Salted, in hindsight it was a relief that they did not throw the usual 17 packets of Ketchup in the bag without asking first.

I also learned on my quest today that Blimpie's, Dunkin Donut's, Popeye's and Checker's do not make a Sausage Biscuit so I'm going to have to finagle an Egg, Sausage & Cheese Biscuit without the Egg from those that even sell a Biscuit.

7/11 Sausage Biscuit - 2/25/15 - Lo, I have heard of the mythical 7/11 Sausage Biscuit ($1.09) and took a short detour when my Sausage sense was tingling and there they were (see photo below) nestled amidst the EggaMuffins and whatnot in the Microwaveable Food portion of the kiosks.

Being new to the 7/11 Microwave experience I did approach the counter with my purchase and ask "what's the deal" and was directed to the Microwvave Oven and told to set it on "2" which the wrapping did espouse but who trusts wrapping these days.

This Sausage Pattie was the Saltiest yet but within reason, also the Biscuit came out softer and not as dry as Mickey D's and BK being wrapped and waved, still I enjoyed it.

Three Down, this could be it folks.

Jimmy Dean/The Frozen Supermarket Sausage Biscuit - I was hesitant to purchase these but was I really ?

After all this is a tournament and all are welcome, go into the light.

DONT GO INTO THE LIGHT, Surprisingly a box of 10 microwaveable Sammiches (how do you think the other places heat them up) cost $10.99 so there is no savings in buying in bulk. These come packed in pouches of two.

Very similar to the 7/11 Biscuits, a dry Buttermilk Biscuit which is correct and a slightly juicy "look out for the" Pattie "whale". I would definitely purchase these again and they last a bit in the freezer. Great for that 3 a.m. Snack.

THE WINNER IS BK.

CHEESY CHICKEN BEAN DIP/SPOON NACHOS

No one ever said Refried Beans were particularly photogenic, not even Mrs. Refried Bean but they are Quite Delicious and these are the canned kind from Goya which speaks volumes of their Greatness.

Pictured above was my second attempt at Bean Dip with some Ingredients thrown in literally to jazz things up but mainly I had to use up a Bermuda Onion and Tomato and had some Chicken Cutlets taking up room in the Freezer as well as a Huge open bag of Tortilla Chips.

Bean Dip should be mostly Bean but thus far its about fifty fifty if not sixty Stuff and forty Beans, Still Quite Tasty, heck I ate it two days in a row, tonight with Pita Bread and last night, well,...

lets check that out below.

On the train ride home I concocted the Chip brained scheme to make a Nachos you can eat with a spoon idea and a Lot of Chips go a little ways as I found out after crushing them up accordingly.

Step 1 - Crush a bunch of Chips and place in a microwave safe bowl (if you plan on heating these up which I highly recommend). I put mine in a plastic bag, after all part of the reason I wanted to eat with a spoon is so I don't get all that Cheese Powder on my fingers.

A plain unflavored Tortilla Chip would work better but I had Nacho Cheese Flavor on hand and lots of them as in 11 ounces worth (heck, they were on sale).

Step 2 - You don't want a bowl of crushed Tortilla Chips with everything on top so I decided to layer my concoction.

Atop Chip layer one (of 2) as you feel fit, I used Refried Beans, Cheddar Cheese, Bermuda Onion and Hot Pepper Slices then topped with more Chips.

Step 3 - Atop the second layer of Chips I placed Diced Chicken Breast, Cheddar Cheese, Diced Tomato and Bermuda Onion.

Afterwards I realized I forgot the Hot Sauce, this I added afterwards and wound up stirring the mixture up quite a bit anyways.

Microwave for at least 2 minutes, if all the ingredients have been refrigerated overnight you might want to double that time.

I wish I had some Sour Cream.

IT'S A PEANUT BUTTER THING YOU WOULD(n't) UNDERSTAND

I was going to open this Gooey salvo with possibly the most popular Peanut Butter based snack in the Western World the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup but David Chang's Momofuku related Milk Bar's "Candy Bar Pie" took precedence.

Akin to a Peanut Butter Pie but with Caramel and look theres a little baby Pretzel.

This photo almost didn't make the grade and then I thought, Why The Heck Not.

My brown bagged PBJ Sandwiches disguised as a McDonald's Food Product.

the McPBJ.

Reese's are What Reese's is.

Showcased atop the Good Yeggs Snare Drum at Good Yegg's rehearsal.

Crumbly Peanut Butter within, Creamy Chocolate wrapped around, an American Classic.

And look what made the back of the Club Cracker box, the perfect snack indeed.

WOULDJA HAND ME THAT FALAFEL

Tahini Sauce is not the easiest thing to come by in my neighborhood but I procured the last can at of all places my corner store and have been meaning to make Falafel's for sometime (Thanks Clare). So a Platter I did make complete with Pimiento Olives (which are the wrong kind) and some Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, only after sitting down with my Plate did I realize I was missing Cucumber, well can't win it every time. The Pita Bread was heated directly on the stove burner which I recommend to everyone.

Perfectly offsetting the "Fried" of the Falafel Balls is some Tasty Veggies.

Maybe not the Miss America of Food Pics but here is the Falafel Mix in its pre-cooked state.
